The Indian National Congress (INC) is  protecting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Rajasthan, ahead of the first phase of the Rajya Sabha elections.

The INC is worried about its MLAs and are protecting them to ensure the opposition would not destabilize Rajasthan Government with “money power.”

Recently in Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took over from the INC after winning the floor test.  Jyotiraditya Scindia, one of the strongest then members of the INC switched his loyalty to the BJP.  Following Mr. Scindia, 10 other MLAs also resigned from the INC in Madhya Pradesh, decreasing the MLAs in the INC.

Fearing a similar scenario in Rajasthan, the INC are on their toes to save its MLAs from being toppled by the BJP.

Mahesh Joshi, the Chief Whip of the Rajasthan Assembly, on the 10th of June, wrote to the chief of the state’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding the same.  He said,   “Like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka, in Rajasthan, our MLAs and independents supporting us are being lured in an attempt to destabilize a democratically elected government, which is completely devoted to the service of people.”

The letter without any mention of the BJP read, “Our MLAs and independents supporting us — attempts are being made to lure them with money power.”

Ashoke Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan also addressed the media and siad  “reports that the BJP is willing to spend up to 25 to 30 crore per MLA.”

On the other hand, the INC moved its MLAs to safe resorts and hotels of Jaipur, with high security and deployed police personnel for the same.

The INC even conducted a closed door meeting on the 10th of June with INC leaders in Rajasthan and leaders from Delhi.

The attempt were made to prevent the MLAs from horse trading.

The INC has 107 MLAs with 6 from Bahujan Samaj Party and 12 independent candidates.  Whereas, the BJP has a total of 72 MLAs in the State.

Stay tuned for further updates.
