Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have instantly solved the murder of an IBM employee at her apartment in Bengaluru two days ago, with the arrest in Haryana of a man whom she had befriended on social media.

Kusum Singla, was found death in her south-east Bengaluru apartment by her flatmate after she returned from work on Tuesday evening. The 31-year-old was strangled with the laptop cord.

Bangalore police officer P Harisekaran said, Sukhbir Singh was arrested from Haryana today early morning for the murder. “Within 24 hours, we cracked the case and arrested the accused. We identified the suspect from the scene of crime,” the police officer said. Sukhbir was tracked, he said, through social media posts and cell phone records.

The police reports tells that, Sukhbir Singh and Kusum Singla, had met each other on a social networking site about three months ago. The man had sent a request to connect and Ms Singla had accepted.

On Tuesday, Ms Singla invited Mr Singh home and they had an altercation over money. Sukhbir had asked her for Rs. 50,000, and was later ready to settle for Rs. 5,000, but Kusum refused to pay him and he strangled her in a fit of rage, the police have alleged.
