The extension to the ongoing lockdown is said to be one of the important steps to control the increasing numbers of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in India.

In the past few days, India reported a drastic rise in the numbers of cases, approximately 700 fresh cases in a day, which is a matter of concern.  This extension would maintain social distancing and the spread of the virus, as human gathering is a major source of the transmission of the virus.

According to the Indian Health Ministry,  without the lockdown, COVID-19 cases would have crossed 8 lakhs by the 15th of April but, due to this lockdown the number is 10, 541.

Similarly  an extended Nationwide lockdown might  help to reduce the rate of growth of the Novel Coronavirus infection.   However, the imposed lockdown also means problems for daily wages workers, farmers and poor families and a severe economic disturbance.  Many small businesses, firms and startups would suffer and employment rate would be affected.

The Government of India (GoI) assured safety measures and welfare schemes for the poor families and daily wages labourers and the prevention of the spread of the virus.

Vijay Raghavan, the government’s top science official and Principal Scientific Adviser of India said, “India is doing all it can to ensure that when the lockdown is lifted we have the strategies to prevent its spread.”

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation which announced the Novel Coronavirus as a pandemic illness, advised nations to not rush and lift restrictions over the lockdown.

The proper solution and cure for the Novel Coronavirus is a vaccine, which is expected to be ready in 18 months approximately.

Medical experts and scientists are working to make an antidote or vaccine for COVID-19 infection which killed 119,724 and infecte 1,926,235 people globally till date.

Stay tuned for further updates.
