The historic presidential elections of the Indian National Congress (INC) is all set to be held on the 17th of October, Monday.

As per sources, the tough fight for the INC President’s spot is between senior Indian National Congress leaders Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge and Mr. Shashi Tharoor.   The elections of 2022 hold special importance as in the past two decades (20 years) this would be the first time that a non Gandhi would be the President of the 75 years old Indian National Congress.

This time, neither Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC, nor her kids Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC and daughter Ms. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have filed nomination for the post.  

In addition, speaking about the polls arrangements, the INC workers made elaborate arrangements at polling stations across the country.  The voting for the next INC President started at 10:00 A.M.  According to sources, over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates form the electoral college would vote and pick the next party chief in a secret ballot, at the respective PCC offices across India.

According to Congress Election Committee (CEC) members, there would be 36 polling stations and 67 booths in the election across All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters across India.  Furthermore, delegates and PCC members would be given special QR coded Id cards to cast the vote.  After completion of voting, at 4:00 P.M., all the ballot papers boxes of votings would be shifted to the AICC headquarters, in Delhi on the 18th of October.  

It is to be noted, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Manmohan Singh and Ms. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would vote at 12 noon on the 18th of October.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes would be held on the 19th of October, following which the first non Gandhi President of the Indian National Congress would be announced.
