In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, all the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who won the election on the AAP ticket, are likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Mr. Chaitar Vasava (Dediapada,) Mr. Hemant Khava (Jamjodhpur,) Mr. Umesh Makawana (Botad,) Mr. Sudhir Vaghani (Gariadhar) and Mr. Bhupat Bhayani (Visavadar) are the 5 MLAs who won in Gujarat on AAP tickets.

The speculation of AAP MLAs joining the BJP started from Sunday afternoon, the 11th of December.

On Sunday, Mr. Bhupat Bhayani, who recently quit the BJP and joined the AAP was found saying that the future course of action about his next step after winning would be soon informed to the media. When he was asked if he would join the BJP, Mr. Bhupat Bhayani said, “Not at all… I will meet my people, my workers, janta… And a decision, which all of us find proper, will be communicated to you (media.)”

In the recently concluded Gujarat 2022 Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a majority of seats and staked claims to form the State Government. However, the Aam Aadmi Party also made its establishment and secured 6% votes and won 5 assembly seats. It also conquered the national political party status, with its establishment in Goa, Punjab, Delhi and after winning 5 seats in Gujarat. However, a day ahead of the oath taking ceremony, the MLAs of AAP are said to join the BJP soon.

Three of them left the BJP to join the AAP and now all five of the MLAs are speculated to join the BJP.

However, the AAP and all the five MLAs dismissed the rumors of joining the BJP.

Mr. Manoj Sorathiya, the AAP General Secretary in Gujarat, said, “All this is false. Our MLAs have been approached by the BJP and there is a lot of pressure, and they are being bribed… We have talked to all our MLAs, they will not go.”

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that AAP unit merged with the BJP. In the past also AAP unit leaders from Haryana, Uttarakhand and Goa merged with the BJP after the election.

On the other hand, the rumours of the AAP MLAs joining the BJP would be confirmed soon.
