Tarun Gogoi, the former Chief Minister of Assam and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Mr. Gogoi on the 26th of August, took to Twitter and confirmed the news.

Tarun Gogoi said, “I have been tested COVID-19 positive yesterday. People who came in contact with me during the last few days, should go for Covid test immediately.”

After Mr. Gogoi was diagnosed with the COVID-19 infection, his wife also took the test and her results were negative for the infection

Currently, as per doctor’s advice, Tarun Gogoi, 85 year old is under home isolation.

Tarun Gogoi is the 13th Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) to be tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus in Assam.

Recently, MLAs like Ajanta Neog, Rakibul Hussain, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Mihir Kanti, Aminul Haq Laskar, Krishnendu Paul Narayan Deka, Bolin Chetia Nabanita Handique, Atul Bora, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Nath Bharali and others tested positive and are undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Of the 13 MLAs who were tested positive of the COVID-19 infection, 7 are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) 3 from the INC, two from the Asom Gana Parishad also known as Assam People’s Council (AGP) and 1 from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF.)

BJP”s Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa tested positive on Saturday and has been admitted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, Assam has a total of 94,593 positive cases, of which 19,515 are active cases, 74,815 are recovered/discharged cases and 260 are deceased.

The recovery rate for the Novel Coronavirus in Assam is at 79.10 % with 0.30 % mortality rate.
