The farmers association and unions rejected the fresh proposal of the Central Government.

In addition, the farmers who were protesting against the three farm bills called for another nationwide strike on the 14th of December.

The decision was taken during a meeting after going through the proposal.

The farmers associations declined to accept the amendments which the Central Government proposed.

As of now, the Central Government sent a fresh proposal to the protesting farmers.

The proposal include:

– At present, the farmer does not have the right to approach the court in the contract farming law, in which case the government can amend it to include the right to go to court.

– Private players can presently work with the help of PAN cards, but farmers brought up the registration system. The Government could accept this condition.

– Apart from this, the Government also would agree to some tax on private players.

-According to farmer leaders, Amit Shah has talked about some changes in the MSP system and the mandi system according to the convenience of the farmers.

Instead, the farmers association demanded to scrap all the three agri laws introduced by the Bharatiya Janata Party led, the Central Government.

The agitation against the three laws started in September, after the Central Government proposed the laws in the Parliament.

Farmers are demanding just a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ from the Central Government without any compromise or negotiations.

According to the farmers, the three farm bills –

The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, the Farmers Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020 (Empowerment and Protection) and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020, would demolish Minimum Price Support (MSP) giving agriculture sector to the corporates and privatise the agriculture sector.

They also fear, with the new agriculture laws, they would be at the mercy of corporate people, as the mandi system would also be out of context.

Meanwhile, on the 9th of December, thousands of farmers from Haryana and Punjab entered the 14th day of their protest near the borders of New Delhi.

The protest is continuing in several parts of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
