Thousands of farmers began their tractor rally from Singhu border towards Delhi.

The tractor rally called for the 26th of January, 72nd Republic Day of India is as part of the ongoing protest against the new agriculture laws.

The protesting farmers are heading towards Kanjhawala Chowk-Auchandi border-KMP-GT road junction.

A temporary wall has been erected to seal the Karnal bypass to stop the entry of vehicles into the national capital.

Meanwhile, farmers’ tractors with tricolour are set to take out rally in protest against the Centre’s farm laws from the Chilla border on Delhi-Noida Link road.

Security has been tightened in the national capital with police barricades mounted at various important places in the city including ITO, Yamuna Bridge and other locations.

Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Intelligence in Delhi Police, Dependra Pathak has said on Sunday, “The tractor rally will enter Delhi from Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders and return to its originating points. From Singhu, it will pass through Kanjhawala, Bawana, Auchandi border, KMP Expressway, and then return to Singhu.

More than 5,000 protesters near the Singhu border – the epicentre of the agitation against the new agricultural laws that began late November – were adamant to march ahead. At Tikri, farmers’ leaders asked the protesters to maintain calm. The representatives decided to hold a meeting with cops to decide the timing of the rally.

According to the farmers, the three farm bills –

The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, the Farmers Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020 (Empowerment and Protection) and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020, would demolish Minimum Price Support (MSP) giving agriculture sector to the corporates and privatise the agriculture sector.

They also fear, with the new agriculture laws, they would be at the mercy of corporate people, as the mandi system would also be out of context.
