The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of the Presidential elections of India, which is the 18th of July.

On the 9th of June, Thursday, the Election Commission of India Poll Panel held a press conference. The conference which started at 3:00 P.M., would reveal the dates for the elction to the office of the President of India.

The term of President Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to end on the 24th of July and an election for the next president has to be held before that day, which is likely to be the 23rd of July.

Speaking about the process of President’s elections, the President of India is elected by the members of the electoral college consisting of elected members of both houses of Parliament and elected members of the legislative assemblies of all states including the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Furthermore, only the elected members of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament would be eligible to vote for the President of India.  Notably, members of the legislative councils are also not electors for the presidential elections.

In 2017, the presidential polls were held on July 17 and the counting took place on the 20th of July.
