On Friday, the Election Commission (EC) announced the By Elections for Lok Sabha Constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The elections will be held on the 11th of March for the Gorakhpur and Phulpur constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, politicians will be fighting for the Araria, Bhabua and Jehanabad Assembly constituencies.

The Election Commission announced the last date for nominations as the 20th of February. The last day to withdraw a candidate is set on the 23rd of February. The counting of the votes will be done on the 14th of March.

The Election Commission in a media release said the dates were decided after taking different factors into consideration. By Elections at Gorakhpur and Phulpur are necessary after Yogi Adityanath and Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the seats to become CM and Deputy CM. The Araria seat became free after RJD MP Mohammed Taslimuddin passed away.  

The Bhabua Assembly seat was occupied by BJP MLA Anand Bhushan Pandey who passed away in November last year. The Jehanabad seat was taken by Former Health Minister Mundrika Singh Yadav but he lost his life to dengue last year in October.
