The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Ms. Draupadi Murmu won the 2022 presidential elections against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Mr. Yashwant Sinha.

During the counting of votes, Ms. Draupadi Murmu secured 540 Member of Parliament (MPs’) votes with a value of  3,78,000, whereas Mr. Yashwant Sinha secured 208 votes with a value of 1,45,600.

The votes were confirmed by Mr. P.C. Mody,  the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha, said. “These are figures for Parliament (votes)”.

Furthermore, as per the votes of the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) Ms. Draupadi Murmu secured 

Of total votes counted so far, NDA’s Droupadi Murmu got 71.79 per cent votes: Officials.  After the second round, where ballot paper of the first 10 states was alphabetically counted – the total valid votes was 1,138 and their total value was 1,49,575. Out of this, Droupadi Murmu gets 809 votes valued at 1,05,299 & Yashwant Sinha gets 329 votes valued at 44,276.

Droupadi Murmu is inching toward victory and is set to cross the 50 per cent mark soon, as her vote value now reached 4,83,299, while her rival Yashwant Sinha’s vote value reached 1,89,876.

So, upto this round, the cumulative total is – total valid votes is 3219 with total value of 8,38,839 of which Droupadi Murmu gets 2161 votes of the value of 5,77,777. Yashwant Sinha get 1058 votes of the value of 2,61,062: PC Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha.

This is the first time, a tribal woman has become the President of India, with a tremendous majority of votes.  

Political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (BJP,) the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Biju Janata Dal (BJD,) the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and many other parties extended support to the Tribal woman leader and the NDA candidate Ms. Draupadi Murmu.  

Meanwhile, after the victory, Mr. Yashwant Sinha issued a statement and congratulated Ms. Draupadi Murmu.  In a tweet, the UPA candidate said, “I join my fellow citizens in congratulating Smt Droupadi Murmu on her victory in the Presidential Election 2022. 

India hopes that as the 15th President of the Republic she functions as the Custodian of the Constitution without fear or favour.”
