After Maharashtra and Karnataka, the Delhi Government also imposed night curfew in the wake of New Year’s Eve (NYE) celebrations.
The Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government announced night curfew on the 31st of December and the 1st of January.
The decision ahead of the New Year celebrations was taken in the wake of the new strain of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority on the 31st of December issued orders for the night curfew in Delhi. Vijay Dev, the Chief Secretary of Delhi, signed the orders which came into effect from today.
The orders issued by the Delhi Government read, “A detailed assessment of the situation in Delhi has been made and considering the threat posed by the mutant the U.K. strain of COVID-19 virus and after observing the local incidents of COVID-19 pandemic in Delhi, it is apprehended that gatherings, congregations, and public celebrations of New Year pose a considerable threat of the spread of the virus and may cause a setback to the appreciable gains made in the suppression of chain of transmission of COVID-19 cases in Delhi.”
The timings of the imposed curfew would be from 11:00 P.M., of the 31st of December to 6:00 A.M., of the 1st of January and from 11:00 P.M., of the 1st of January till 6:00 A.M., of the 2nd of January.
However, there would be no restriction on the interstate and intrastate movement of persons and goods during the curfew period.
As many as 677 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 6,24,795, including 5,838 active cases and 6,08,434 recovered/discharged cases.
In addition, a total of 10,523 deaths have been reported here so far in the National Capital.
