In Delhi, resident doctors are continuing with their protest against the delay in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) Post Graduate (PG) counselling.
Yesterday, the 27th of December, all the resident doctors of Government run hospitals staged a protest and started a march towards the Supreme Court. However, their ‘peaceful’ protest was interrupted by police officials, who allegedly dragged, detained and brutally attacked the doctors. The Delhi police even registered cases against the protesting doctors under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)
Dr. Sarvesh Rai, a resident doctor, said, “Earlier today, when we were peacefully protesting for immediate counselling of NEET-PG, we were manhandled by the cops. Many resident doctors, including female doctors, were injured during police brutality. Now we want the cops involved in this to be punished.”
Condemning the attack on doctors, the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) called the 27th of December, a ‘Black Day’ for the medical fraternity. The Federation also called for a complete shutdown of all the medical services (non-emergency) ones, starting from the 29th of December.
In addition, the Delhi All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) also supported the FORDA and called for a strike on December 29 and complete shutdown of ‘non-emergency’ medical services. The strike and shutdown would be for an indefinite duration, until the Delhi Government takes action against the Delhi police, which brutally attacked the doctors.
