The Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal on the 5th of August, met with the family of 9 year old Dalit girl victim. After meeting the family members of the Delhi gang rape case victim, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President announced financial aid of Rs. 10 lakhs to the family.

On the same day, the Delhi Chief Minister announced a magisterial probe into the incident. Arvind Kejriwal said, “Our girl cannot come back. The injustice done to the family is unfortunate and cannot be compensated, but the government will give Rs. 10 lakh to them and order a magisterial inquiry into the matter.”

The Delhi CM further asked the Central Government to take strict action. He said, “There is a need to strengthen law and order in Delhi. I appeal to the Central Government to take firm steps in this direction.”

On the 1st of August, a nine year old Dalit girl was gang raped and murdered. After committing the crime, the attackers cremated her body in South West Delhi. The incident which got media attention on the 3rd of August, witnessed an uproar from the opposition and netizens, demanding Justice for the victim. The girl who belonged to the Dalit community was a resident of Purana Mangal in Delhi Cantonment area. She was allegedly kidnapped and gang raped by a priest along with three others. The incident took place late in the evening of the 31st of July, later on the 1st of August, she was murdered and cremated.

After the incident came into light, netizens and citizens of India are comparing it to the Hathras rape case and demanded the death penalty/strict action against the culprits.

Many politicians, social activists and others stood by the victim’s family and assured support until justice is done.

Meanwhile, speaking about the development of the case, the Delhi Police is investigating the case and registered a charge sheet against the priest and three others. The four suspects have been charged under the under the relevant sections, like 376 (rape,) 302 (murder,) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 204 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Act also.

In addition, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) also started an investigation and summoned the City Police regarding delay in registering a FIR and starting an investigation. The case is currently under investigation by the DCW and the Magisterial Probe as per the Delhi GM’s order is soon to begin.
