In Rajasthan’s clash hit Jodhpur, the imposed curfew has been extended till the 6th of May.  On the 2nd of May night, a violent clash broke out between two communities amid Eid prayers.

Soon, the violence intensified with the intervention of the police, leaving many people injured and tension in the area.  To control the situation, the Jodhpur Police imposed a curfew and detained over 140 people in the matter.

The Jodhpur District Police Commissioner issued the order to extend the curfew on the 5th of May, Thursday.  The order read, “The curfew imposed in Jodhpur Commissionerate area on May 3 has been extended till May 6…Raikabagh Palace Bus Stand and Raikabagh Railway Station have been excluded from the curfew.”

In addition, during the imposed curfew, the students and teachers appearing for the examination have been exempted besides personnel engaged in medical services, bank officials, Judicial officers and media are also allowed to venture out.  Lastly, newspaper hawkers would also be allowed to distribute the newspapers.  Furthermore, the decision to resume mobile and internet services would also be taken after considering the law and order situation in the region.

Justice Himanshu Gupta, the Jodhpur District Magistrate, said, “The decision to resume mobile internet services will be taken after assessing the law & order situation.  Currently, mobile internet services remain suspended.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, said strict action would  be take against people who fueled the violence and commnunity clash and they would not be spared.  In addition, the Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah demanded a detailed report of the probe in the Jodhpur violence from the Indian National Congress led Rajasthan Government.
