Jagdeep Dhankhar, the West Bengal Governor, lashed out at the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for delay in ration distribution in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus crises.

Mr. Dhankhar on the 4th of May, pointed out 4 weeks delay of 3.38 lakh tonnes of rice amongst the underprivileged needy people during the lockdown 3.0.

Jagdeep Dhankhar took to his official Twitter handle and posted a tweet which read, “Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna @PMOIndia as on May 3 Free Rice has been lifted @MamataOfficial -3.38 lac tonnes from FCI.

Four week delay before my intervention catalyzed lifting

Agitations/violence in distribution of FREE RATION!Official to be apolitically vigilant.”

He further said, “My response ⁦@MamataOfficial⁩  “Let us, in deference to popular sentiment, give quietus to this and together subscribe to time tested pearls of wisdom and plunge in service of the people, discarding the baggage of past and just look ahead to beat Covid-19 (1/3).”

The Central Government also wrote a letter to the West Bengal Government, asking to be more transparent regarding COVID-19 infection figures and ration distribution figures in West Bengal.

Apurva Chandra, the leader of  the Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) in West Bengal wrote to the West Bengal Chief Secretary Gautam Sanya.  In the letter the IMCT leader said there should be transparency in the figures reported during the Coronavirus crises.

According to the letter, the highest mortality rate is 12.8 %, which is a “clear indication of low testing and weak surveillance and tracking.”

Besides, the State Government stopped conducting the COVID-19 tests in the past two days, which resumed on the 3rd of May.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) West Bengal has a total of 963 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 151 recoveries and 35 deaths till the 4th of May.
