When a helicopter carrying pilgrims crash landed after taking off from the Himalayan shrine in Uttarakhand, a crew member was killed and the two pilots severely injured. The five passengers were, however, safe.

A senior official of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in New Delhi said that the two pilots suffered injuries and an engineer, who was part of the crew died. Tripathi Bhatt, the superintendent of police of Chamoli, said the dead engineer, Vikram Lamba was hit by the rotor blades. Lamba was a resident of Assam.

The police said after taking off at 7:45 A.M., the helicopter got imbalanced and due to insufficient air pressure crashed. Pilot Sanjay Wasi is a resident of Pune and co-pilot Alka Shukla is a resident of Kanpur.

The pilgrims were from Vadodara in Gujarat and have already left to their destinations. The helicopter, owned by Krestal Aviation was going to Haridwar. The officials said that they were investigating the incident.
