The Calcutta High Court, on the 25th of March, Friday ordered a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into the Birbhum violence.

The HC bench comprising the Chief Justice Mr. Prakash Shrivastava and Justice R. Bharadwaj directed the West Bengal Government formed TSpecial Investigation Team (SIT) to hand over case papers and accused persons arrested, to the central probe agency.  During the hearing, the Calcutta HC said the CBI probe was being ordered in the interest of justice.  

It is to be noted, earlier, the National President of Hindu Sena Mr. Vishnu filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court, demanding CBI investigation in the Birbhum Violence, in which an alleged mob burnt 8 people, including children and women, alive.  Furthermore, a similar petition was filed in the Calcutta High Court, demanding central investigation.

In addition, the HC also has taken up the suo moto case of the gruesome incident, on the 23rd of March.

Meanwhile, the HC ordered the CBI to submit a preliminary report of the incident investigation by the 7th of April.
