Eyeing to form the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Karnataka for another term, the party released its first list of candidates.

On the evening of the 11th of April, Tuesday, the BJP released the first list including 189 candidates for the 10th May state elections.  The list was released at the party headquarters in the national capital Bengaluru.  Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, the Karnataka election in charge and Mr. Arun Singh, the BJP General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh released the list.

As per the list, there are 52 candidates who are said to be the new faces of the BJP, contesting in the elections.  Furthermore, of the 189 candidates, Mr. Basavaraj Bommai, the current Chief Minister of Karnataka has also been named as MLA candidate from his Shiggaon constituency. 

Besides 52 new faces, the list also include 32 candidates from the Other Backward Class (OBC) category, 30 from the Scheduled Castes and 16 from the Scheduled Tribes.

Expressing confidence about the party’s victory, Mr. Arun Singh said that the people of the state trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.   Other leaders named on the list are: V. Somanna, R. Ashok, B.Y. Vijayendra, B. Sriramulu, C.T. Ravi, Yashpal Suvarna and others.

Notably, the Karnataka Assembly elections for 224 Assembly seats would be held in a single phase on the 10th of May, whereas the counting of votes would be on the 13th of May.
