BJP moved EC against BSP chief Mayawati for using caste in politics.

BJP has moved the election commission against the BSP chief Mayawati for using the name of caste in seeking votes. The BJP asked for her party BSP to be debarred from elections based on the same. The UP executive member of BJP Neeraj Saxena moved the petition on Saturday for ‘flouting’ the Supreme Court directives.

Saxena told the Press Trust of India, “Mayawati during her press conference on December 24 and January 3 presented caste wise details of ticket distribution clearly stating that her party has given tickets to how many Muslims, backward, SCs and others.” Apart from this, the BSP party men were caught distributing booklets, “Muslim samaj ka sachcha hitaishi kaun-faisla aap karein” in their constituencies. He added that this was against the SC directives that stated that votes cannot be sought on basis of caste, community or language.

On January 3, the BSP chief Mayawati said that of the 403 seats, 85 are reserved for SC’s, 87 for Dalits and 97 to Muslims. Also 106 for OBC’s, 66 to Brahmins, 36 to Kshatriyas and 11 to Kayasthas, Vaishyas, and Punjabis. The SC in a ruling the last week said that religion, caste, and creed cannot be used to seek votes and to make it a secular activity keep the religion away from the electoral process.
