In Another incident of mob lynching by Hindu Dals against a Muslim man was reported in Uttar Pradesh.

On the 12th of August, a Muslim man of Kanpur was beaten up on a road by a mob. Identified as Aftar Ahmad, an e rickshaw driver, was allegedly beaten by a mob, said to be members of the Bajrang Dal.

Getting into the details of the incident, the mob assaulted Aftar Ahmad asking him to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram,’ and when he declined to do so, was beaten badly. Even after he was handed over to the Kanpur Police, the mob continued to beat Aftar Ahmad while he was being taken by the cops.

Though the incident took place on the 11th of August, it got media attention a day after, the 12th of August. Many social media users shared and posted the video of the incident, which went viral, gaining criticism against the Bajrang Dal and the Kanpur Police.

In the viral video the mob was mercilessly beating the man, while his little daughter was seen crying and asking for help from the people around.

Meanwhile, the Kanpur Police conducted an initial investigation and revealed that the Bajrang Dal members barged into Aftar’s house and accused him of trying to forcibly convert a Hindu woman into Islam. The allegations were based on the accusations of a woman, who is also the neighbor of Aftar Ahmad. The woman alleged that he (Aftar) and his family had been pressuring her to convert to Islam. She claimed she even approached the police and registered a complaint but no action was taken.

Following this, she went to the Bajrang Dal and met the outfit’s district organiser Dilip Singh. She said, “These people have been forcing me to convert to Islam and even induced me by offering Rs. 20,000. I filed a police complaint against them but no one took any action. They have been troubling and pressuring me. When the cops didn’t act, I approached the Bajrang Dal.”

Meanwhile, Aftar’s family denied the allegations of the woman and termed it as a lie. Adding to it, Aftar’s family members said, the Bajrang Dal members are threatening them and asking them to leave the locality. The matter is also expected to be an internal dispute between two families for the sake of property. However, a final report regarding the investigation is yet to be revealed.

The Kanpur Police arrested three members of the Bajrang Dal involved in the assault and launched an investigation. Raveena Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of South Kanpur said, “We have registered a case based on the man’s complaint against some named and some unidentified people. The matter is being investigated.”

The matter is under investigation.
