New Delhi: At least ten people were killed in landslides on Wednesday in Hailakandi and Karimganj districts in Barak Valley in Assam. The landslides occurred after the incessant rains for the past three days.
According to police, in the wee hours, five people of a family were killed in a landslide at Sonachirra in Karimganj district. It is heard that the landslide also buried a house, which was on the edge of a hill. This killed five people including a man, his wife, daughter and two sons.
The police officials said that two incidents of landslide killed four persons at Bilaipur and a six-year old boy at Ramchandi area in Hailakandi district. The rescue and relief operations are underway by the police and NDRF.
