The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, on the 21st of March sparked another controversy.

Days after his triggering ripped jeans remark, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader embarked controversy over extra rations. During an event in Nanital’s Ramnagar area, the State CM said, in order to get extra ration during the pandemic Novel Coronavirus, people should have produced more children. The statement was made over different quantities of ration distribution to families with 20 members and families with less members. During the pandemic, the State Government gave 5 kg of ration per person to every affected household.

Over this, Mr. Tirath Singh Rawat said, “Those having 10 children got 50 kg while those with 20 got one quintal. People with two children got 10 kg. People built stores and found buyers.” He said, “Who is to blame for this? Now you are jealous of it. When there was time, you produced only two. Why didn’t you produce 20.”

In addition to this, Mr. Tirath Singh confused British rule with American rule and said, “Jaha America ke 200 varsh take hum log ghulam the, pure vishwa ke andar uska raj tha, kabhi suraj chipta hi nahi tha yeh kehte the. Lekin aaj ke samay me wo dol gaya bol gaya, pone teen lakh se bhi mrityu dar chala gaya (Once we were enslaved by America for 200 years, it was ruling the entire world, it was said that the sun never set there. But at present, it is struggling, the death toll [due to Covid-19] has crossed grim milestones.)”

Soon, the opposition took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP and criticised them for their choice of CM. Rajdeep Surjewala, the Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC) said Mr. Narendra Modi picked such “learned talent” and also mocked Mr. Rawat’s statement of America ruling over India for 200 years.

Recently, after the resignation of Trivendra Singh Rawat, the former CM of Uttarakhand, the BJP appointed Tirath Singh Rawat as the new CM of Uttarakhand.

Mr. Tirath Singh Rawat took the oath of office on the 10th of March 2021.
