Karnataka: In a bizarre ritual, a small boy was paraded naked at a drought -hit village in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district to please rain god. The incident took place in Pandarahalli on June 10.
The villagers poured water on the boy, performed pooja after which they striped him. The boy carried idol in the village amid, some chanting and beating of drum by the villagers in the hot sun.
The boy was latter offered new clothes as per the practice prevalent in the village to propitiate the rain god. According to the villagers, an adolescent boy is chosen for the ritual.
This whole event was caught on camera and the Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has taken cognisance of the incident. The officials will be taking action against those involved in the ritual and have also sought a report from the local district authorities.
