On the 15th of November, Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first world class railway station, the Rani Kamlapati Railway Station.

Previously known as Habibganj Railway Station, the renovated station is in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (M.P.)  During the inauguration event, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Today, the country’s first ISO certified as Rani Kamalapati railway station, The country’s first PPP model based railway station has been dedicated to the country.  The facilities that once used to be available at the airport are available at the railway station today.”  He further said, “This historic railway station in Bhopal has not only been rejuvenated, but it has also gained importance with the addition of the name of Rani, Kamalapati ji of Ginnorgarh.  The pride of Gondwana has also added to the pride of Indian Railways today.”

The event was attended by Mr. Mangubhai Patel, the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of M.P.

The newly revamped station is billed as the country’s first world class railway station built on a public private partnership (PPP) mode.  The world class Rani Kamlapati Railway Station has been renovated at a cost Rs. 450 crores.  Designed as the modern world class amenities which has also taken into account ease of mobility for ‘divyangjans’ (physically challenged.)  The station is also developed as a hub for integrated multi-modal transport, the first of such kind in India. 

Mr. Modi dedicated the new revamped station to the nation.  In addition to the Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, the Prime Minister of India launched multiple initiatives of the railways in M.P.  These projects include the conversion of the gauge and electrification of the Ujjain Fatehabad Chandrawatiganj Broad Gauge section, third line in Bhopal-Barkhera section, gauge conversion and electrified Mathela-Nimar Kheri Broad Gauge section and electrified Guna-Gwalior section.

Besides this, Mr. Narendra Modi also extended Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Mahasammelan to tribals.  Mr. Modi said, “For decades tribals’ culture and capability were ignored, even after comprising around 10 percent of India’s population.”  He said, “When we discuss tribal society’s contribution to nation-building,some people get surprised.  They can’t believe that it had a big role in strengthening India’s culture.  It’s because the nation was either never told about it,was kept in the dark or very limited info was given on it.”

He also declared the 15th of November to be celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.  Mr. Modi said, “The country has decided it will give a more meaningful and grand identity to the tribal traditions and its valor stories.  For this, a historic decision has been taken — from today every year, the country will celebrate November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.”
