On the 31st of December, the Mumbai Police, imposed fresh curbs amid the rising number of Omicron, the new variant  of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

The Mumbai Police imposed section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC,) restricting gatherings of four and more people in public places.  The issued orders also prohibits people from visiting beaches, open grounds, sea faces, promenades, gardens, parks or similar public places between 5:00 P.M., to 5:00 A.M., until the 15th of January 2022.

The orders were issued by the Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mr. S. Chaitanya.  The orders came into force, immediately from 1:00 P.M.,.today, the 31st of December.

The order read, “The city continues to be threatened with COVID-19 pandemic in light of the increase in cases and emergence of the new Omicron variant.” 

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported the highest number of Omicron cases amongst states.  As of now, Maharashtra has 450 Omicron cases, of which Mumbai has 190 cases of Omicron.
