The Varanasi District Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on the crucial Gyanvapi Mosque petition filed.

In the last hearing, the District Court Judge Mr. A.K. Vishvesh reviewed the petition, seeking permission to worship deity Shringar Gauri at the Gyanvapi Mosque Complex.  The judge reserved the verdict for the 12th of September, Monday.

In regard to the verdict in the Gyanvapi Mosque case, the Varanasi Police beefed up security and issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC.)

Notably, five women had filed the petition seeking permission for daily worship of Hindu deities whose idols are said to be located on an outer wall of the Gyanvapi mosque, which is close to Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Meanwhile, the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee has said the Gyanvapi mosque is a Waqf property and has questioned the maintainability of the plea.

The matter is said to be controversial, as the Hindus argued that at the site of the Gyanvapam Mosque, there was a Hindu temple.  They further said the mosque was constructed after the demolition of the temple, whereas the mosque authority denied the argument and said, there was no temple.

The matter is pending with the Varanasi District Court.
