The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) activists staged a violent protest at Secunderabad Railway Station, on the 17th of June, Friday.
The leaders and Army aspirants also joined the protest against the Central Government’s new “Agnipath” army recruitment scheme. On the 14th of June, Tuesday, Mr. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defense Minister of India, launched a new defense recruitment model called the ‘Agnipath.’ The new model was launched after being approved by the Union Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA,) for the betterment of the armed forces in India.
As per the newly launched Agnipath scheme, young soldiers would be released after four years of service, paving way for the new ones who want to serve the nation in the Indian Army. The new scheme for recruiting in the Indian Army would give a new technology-based recruitment process and better services to the Indian Army.
The students and the NSUI leaders set two train bogies on fire and vandalized railway properties in the area.
According to sources, after students set bogies on fire, creating a tense environment on the three platforms of the SEC, the NSUI activists also pelted stones at buses outside the railway station.
Notably, thousands of Army exam candidates who took part in the protest have expressed their anger and demanded the cancellation of the Agnipath scheme. They demanded that the army exam must be conducted as usual.
