In a relief to Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) a session court of Surat granted him bail in the 2019 Defamation Case.

Notably, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Ms. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INC leaders, filed a petition against the conviction of a Surat Court.  Earlier, on the 23rd of March, the Magistrate of the Surat Court convicted Mr. Rahul Gandhi for two years imprisonment in the 2019 defamation case, for his remark against PM Narendra Modi.

In a 2019 public rally Rahul Gandhi said, people with surname ‘Modi’ are thieves.  After the conviction, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notice to the Wayanad Member of Parliament (MP) Rahul Gandhi, and disqualified him as a Lok Sabha MP.

Now, with the granted bail, the Indian National Congress leader would apply for revocation of the Lok Sabha notice, which disqualified Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha member.

With the latest development, the Surat Session court granted bail to Mr. Rahul Gandhi and adjourned the matter to the 3rd of May.
