Like Slap On Face, Google Fires Employee On Leave Amid Mother’s Death

Google laid off approximately 12,000 employees, including one who was on leave for the funeral of his mother.

According to sources, the sacking off Tommy York, who was on leave as his mother was fighting cancer stage four.  Taking to his LinkedIn, Tommy York said, “I was laid off from Google last week.  I found out on my fourth day back from bereavement leave for my mom, who died from cancer in December.”  He added that his termination felt like a slap on his face, like being hit when you are down.

Tommy York further said that he feels grateful that he spent his time and energy with his mother and not overworking for a company, which decided to sack him, “On a cold Friday morning.”

In addition, on his LinkedIn profile, Tommy York said he would be taking February and March off and would start searching for a new job afterwards.
