On the 25th of April, Monday, Mr. Madhav Godbole, the Former Union Home Secretary, passed away at the age of 85. 

According to sources, the retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer died due to a cardiac failure, at his residence in Pune, Maharashtra.  The news of his demise was confirmed by his family members in a statement. 

Highlighting the career of Mr. Madhav Godbole, he retired from the IAS in March 1993 after serving as the Union home secretary and secretary of the Department of Justice.  Furthermore, he also served as the secretary of the Union ministries of petroleum and natural gas and urban development, the chairman of Maharashtra State Electricity Board, and the state’s principal finance secretary.  He also had a five-year stint with the Asian Development Bank, Manila.

Following his retirement, Mr. Madhav Godbole was active in the sphere of public policy and governance and penned several essays and articles in various newspapers, including The Indian Express.  It is to be noted, that he wrote over 20 books on public policy, governance, and various other issues of national significance to date. 

In the academic field, Mr. Madhav Godbole had an MA and Ph.D. in economics from Bombay University and an MA in Development Economics from Williams College, Massachusetts.

After hearing of the demise of Mr. Madhav Godbole, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders extended condolences.

The last rites of the Union Home Secretary would be held later on the 25th of April, Monday.  Furthermore,  Mr. Madhav Godbole is survived by his wife Sujata, son Rahul and daughter Meera.
