Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first Torch-Relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad covering the 20 cities, in 10 days.

On the 19th of June, Mr. Narendra Modi launched the historic torch relay, which to date covered regions of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. The relay crossed 20 cities, of a total of 75 cities.

Till the 30th of June, Thursday, the relay covered the entire North India leg and headed towards the other regions.  Notably, the torch relay started in New Delhi and will end in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the 44th Chess Olympiad is all set to hit the record books as the highest number of countries and teams have registered for the world’s biggest chess event scheduled in Chennai.  Notably, 343 teams from near to 187 countries will participate in the chess event, starting from the 28th of July till the 10th of August

Furthermore, the historic event will be conducted in India for the first time ever.

Previously, the 43rd Batumi Chess Olympiad, held in Georgia in 2018, had set a record with 184 and 150 teams in the open and women’s sections respectively from 179 countries.
