A major fire broke out at the Nehru Zoological Park on Monday in Hyderabad. Fortunately, none of the animals were harmed as the fire started in an open area. The fire damaged two acres of land filled with vegetation.

The Officials of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department (TSDRFS) immediately rushed to the zoo. It took the officials a total of 2 hours to douse the fire completely.

Some reports suggest the zoo staff were burning dried leaves and the dry summer grass spread the flames. A few other reports state it was a lit cigarette bud that caused the massive fire. The actual cause is yet to be ascertained.

Monday is a holiday for the zoo and there were no visitors to cause panic. However, the trees on the plot were gutted and burnt to ashes.
