Telangana (TS) Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao appointed in charge Director General of Police (DGP) M. Mahender Reddy as the regular DGP. On Monday, the CM cleared a file related to appointing a regular head of the police force.
Mr. Reddy is a 1986 batch IPS Officer who was appointed the acting in charge DGP on the 12th of November 2017. Mahender Reddy will hold the post of regular DGP until December 2022.
State Governments need to send three probable names to the Union Public Service Commission to appoint a regular DGP. However, last month the Telangana Assembly passed the Telangana Police (Selection and Appointment of Director General of Police Head of Police Force) Bill 2018. The Bill allows the State Government to directly appoint a DGP.
