The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said this summer Hyderabad would face more heat waves than the past two years. The temperature in the city skyrocketed to 40 degrees Celcius for the first time yesterday.

The scientist stated the heat waves would be moderate throughout the summer. This means the temperature will increase 5 to 7 degrees during a heat wave. Last year Hyderabad had about 23 days of heat waves. This time IMD has forecasted about 27 days of heat waves in the city.

On Friday, the temperature in the city a little about 40 degrees. The city roads were found empty during the day as motorists decided to avoid a heat stroke. Other areas around the city like Adilabad, Nizamabad, Ramagundam and Mahabubnagar recorded 42 degree Celsius.

The IMD warned the temperatures are likely to continue increasing in the next two days. The traffic cops in the city are facing the worst of the heat. The Government has provided them with buttermilk packets and water bottles to keep them hydrated during their hot day’s work.
