To curb minor riding/driving in Hyderabad the Traffic Police decided to hold the parents accountable. On Thursday 10 parents were sent to prison for one day for letting their minor children ride/drive.  

Under Section 180 of the Motor Vehicle Act Rs. 500 as a penalty was slapped on the parents. Another 14 year old was sent to a juvenile home for one day after being caught riding a vehicle.

According to the Hyderabad Traffic Police records, 45 parents were jailed and 1,079 cases were registered for minor riding/driving in February. The Hyderabad Police started a campaign to stop minor riding/driving in February. In just one day of the campaign, the police booked 191 cases against minors and jailed 4 parents.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have been making a number of initiatives to avoid road accidents. Curbing drunken driving is another campaign set up by the city’s police. Just in 2017, a total of 20,411 drunk driving cases were booked by the Hyderabad Traffic Police.
