Vijayawada: The TDP accused the state government of manipulating Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) figures to justify raising more debt. According to TDP spokesperson Neelayapalem Vijay Kumar, the state’s Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limit increased from Rs 45,000 crore to Rs 94,000 crore, suggesting over 100% GSDP growth.

Kumar questioned how the debt limit surged without a corresponding rise in state revenues. He highlighted discrepancies in state revenue, citing a significant debt increase of Rs 7,000 crore in April alone, equivalent to monthly revenues. He criticized the government’s borrowing practices, noting that borrowing without fiscal discipline, especially during the Model Code of Conduct, is concerning.

The TDP further criticized the state’s FRBM breaches in the previous fiscal year and emphasized the need for financial accountability amid heightened borrowing.
