In a major blow to the Islamabad Police, the Pakistan Supreme Court termed the arrest of Imran Khan, the former PM of Pakistan as illegal.

On the 11th of May, Thursday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, ordered the anti corruption watchdogs, which arrested Mr. Imran Khan on corruption charges to produce him before the Supreme Court.  The directives to present Khan in the court came after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial termed the PTI leader’s arrest from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC) as a mighty disgrace to the country’s judicial establishment.

The top court ordered the NAB to produce the former Pakistan cricket captain “within an hour” as a three-member bench heard the PTI’s petition challenging Khan’s arrest.

He was brought to court in a black bulletproof Mercedes with several security officials in tow, according to reports.

Later, the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, which heard the plea of the President of the Pakistan Tahreek e Insaf, ordered immediate release.  In addition, the SC ordered the PTI Supremo to appear before the court on the 12th of May, Friday.

After the SC’s orders, the PTI tweeted, “The nation of Pakistan welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court which annulled the arrest of Chairman Imran Khan.”
