The Balapur Police arrested nine people, for selling and buying a minor girl in the Balapur area of Rangareddy District, Hyderabad, Telangana.

Recently, on the 23rd of January, a 14-year-old, was sold for Rs. 3 lakh to a 61-year-old man from Mumbai. The mother and grandmother of the minor allegedly had a deal with Mr. Syed Althaf Ali, who was looking for someone to look after him.  Notably, the Mumbai man is a divorcee for six years.  He met with the victim’s family after an introduction to an auto driver, Akeel Ahmed.  Akeel helped Mr. Syed to find the minor girl and negotiated to buy her. 

According to the police, in the first meeting with the minor’s grandmother and mother demanded Rs. 5 lakh for the girl.   However, due to financial trouble and negotiations, the victim’s family closed the deal for Rs. 3 lakhs. 

The police further said, when Syed Ali reached the home of one of the co-accused in Balapur to finalize the deal, the police arrested him and the eight others for trying to buy a minor girl.

All the nine accused including Syed Ali, the auto driver, the girl’s mother, and grandmother have been arrested.  All the accused were booked under sections 370, 370 (A) r/w 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 17 of the POCSO Act, and Section 3&5 of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act (PITA.) 

The case is under investigation.
