On the 9th of December, a snowstorm created chaos in Des Moines, Iowa, Washington D.C., the Capital of the United States of America (U.S.A.)  The snowstorm left one person severely injured and approximately 50 vehicles collided with one another in a pileup.

The incident took place around 11:00 A.M. (Indian Standard Time.)  According to the Police’s reports, the westbound lanes on I-80 between Altoona, Iowa, as well as the area intersecting with Interstates 35 and 235 remained closed for more than 1 hour.

Randy Adkins, a meteorologist at AccuWeather, said, “Temperatures fell into the low 20s as the snow squall arrived and visibility was reduced to a below a quarter of a mile (sic.)”  He further said, “I think the fact that conditions changed so rapidly likely contributed as well. This is the type of thing that will easily catch someone off guard. Total snow amounts in Des Moines were generally less than an inch, but the combination of a slick coating of snow, significantly reduced visibility, and wind gusts near 40 mph likely produced very dangerous driving conditions.”

The National Weather Service in Bismarck reported the snow, which reached the Dakotas on the weekend.

Officials of enforcement agencies and emergency forces rushed to the spot where the vehicles collided and are trying to control the situation.  Details about the injured are yet to be confirmed.
