On the 24th of September, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, met with Mr. Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America (U.S.A.,) at the White House.

This was the first in person meeting between the Prime Minister of India and the President of the U.S.A., after the Joe Biden administration formed the State Government. During the bilateral meeting, the leaders discussed future development, bilateral relations and global issues.

Mr. Narendra Modi said, “This decade will be shaped by talent and people-to-people linkages. I am glad the Indian diaspora is making an active contribution towards USA’s progress.” He further said, “Today’s bilateral summit is important. We are meeting at the start of the third decade of this century. Your leadership will certainly play an important role in how this decade is shaped. The seeds have been sown for an even stronger friendship between India and the U.S.A.”

Speaking about the relationship between India and the United States, Mr. Joe Biden said, “Relations between India and the U.S., are destined to be stronger. We should explore what more we can do to fight COVID-19, the climate challenge and work for a safer Indo-pacific. Upholding democratic values, joint commitment to diversity, respect for non-violence and tolerance are more relevant today than ever.”

Besides meeting the President of the U.S.A., Mr. Modi is also scheduled to attend the Quad summit 2021, on the 25th of September. He would also attend the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) 2021.

For the U.S.A., the Leaders’ Quad 2021 is a step to focus on diplomatic efforts, following the 20 year Afghanistan war. The Summit discusses major global issues, defence, security and development.

In the past 2 days, Mr. Narendra Modi met with Ms. Kamala Harris, the Vice President (VP) of the United States of America (U.S.A.,) and chief executive officers (CEOs) of American companies. AfterwardsMr. Modi met with Mr. Yoshihide Suga, the Prime Minister of Japan.

The meeting with Ms. Kamala Harris was scheduled on the 23rd of September evening at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, near the premises of the White House. In addition, Mr. Narendra Modi invited Ms. Kamala Harris to India and said, “The people of India are waiting to welcome you. I extend to you an invitation to visit India.”

Besides meeting with the U.S., VP, Mr. Narendra Modi also met with Mr. Yoshihide Suga and discussed bilateral relations with Japan and scope of growth and development of the two countries and exchanged global views including the Afghanistan matter. Both the leaders discussed ways to have trade and cultural ties between India and Japan.

On Thursday, the 23rd of September, Mr. Narendra Modi also met with his Australian counterpart Mr. Scott Morrison.

The PM of India would also address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the 25th of September. Mr. Narendra Modi is scheduled to return to India on the 26th of September.
