Tagouri is a Libyan-American woman born in West Virginia, a University of Maryland graduate whose dream is to be the first ever hijabi-wearing anchor on commercial U.S., news Television. She already works for the news channel Newsy, where she has broken all barriers, owning proudly what she is and doing what she loves. The first ever story that she covered for Newsy was about Middle Eastern and North African Americans being considered “white” on the U.S., census. As with all things that need to said, this too received a lot of criticism and Noor was told to leave the country.

But keeping up he circle of positivity, optimism and determination around her, she went on to spread the message to people to accept who they are and live by it. In 2012, she also started a campaign with the hashtag #LetNoorShine to help achieve her goal to become the first hijab donning anchor and also help people to embrace their individuality. This, along with many more steps taken by her for the benefit of women and humanity in general, is what made Playboy feature her in their latest Renegade 2016 list which honours women across industries who “risk it all to do what they do.”

But as it always is, controversy follows confidence everywhere and Tagouri found herself once again flooded with negative comments about her cover. This didn’t deter her though and she took to her website to write – “A fully clothed 22-year-old Muslim American Libyan Woman took an iconic magazine and used it to spread a positive and much needed message. I did what so many women with inspiring messages of hope would have been uncomfortable doing because success for a woman is often predicated on what society deems appropriate for us to succeed in.” The journalist has certainly captured the hearts of many with her rebellious but honest ways. Her TEDx talk was also quite an inspiration for people who often hide behind their fears and weaknesses to come out and be who they are.

And the Pplayboy cover of Noor depicts exactly that – who she is. Wearing black jeans, black leather jacket, white t-shirt and worn for wear Converse shoes, she screams bold and beautiful! “As a badass activist with a passion for demanding change and asking the right questions, accompanied by beauty-ad-campaign looks, Tagouri forces us to ask ourselves why we have such a hard time wrapping our minds around a young woman who consciously covers her head and won’t take no for an answer,Playboy wrote in the feature. The series includes other famous rebel stars like social activist and adult actress Stoya, singer Sky Ferriera and comedian Ali Wong.
