On Friday, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB,) removed Ganesh Kumar’s name, the arts topper of class XII, from the list for hiding his age. The Patna SSP, Manu Maharaaj said Ganesh was called to the BSEB office and has been arrested.

The BSEB Chairman, Anand Kishor said Ganesh manipulated his age and changed his name to reappear for the Class X and Class XII exams. “He cheated the board by manipulating his age. So his name has been removed from the toppers list. However, there is no problem with his performance in the board exam. A FIR has been lodged against him and the schools from which he appeared for the Class X and Class XII examinations in 2015 and 2017, respectively,” said Kishor.

The board filed the FIR with Kotwali police station and canceled the certificates of both the exams for which he appeared. Mr. Kishor said that the Board examined his family background and the life of Ganesh.

“The board was shocked to know that Ganesh’s real age is 41 and he is the father of two kids. He concealed his age. He had done his matriculation from CRSR High School, Suriya in Giridih district of Jharkhand in 1990 with his real name Ganesh Ram (date of birth November 7, 1975),” Kishor explained.

The report says that Ganesh has fudged his birth certificate which showed his date of birth as June 2, 1993. Ganesh appeared for Class XII exam this year in Ramnandan Singh Jagdeep Narayan College, Samastipur. His mark sheet showed that he scored 92% in Hindi, 78% in Second Language, 83% in Music, 80% in History, 80% in Social Studies and 59% in Psychology.

Ganesh was asked some basic questions relating to the subjects in which he scored highest marks but he could not answer most of them.

Kishore said that both the schools have been served show cause notice and the principals are given three days to reply. “Their affiliation will also be canceled. The answer sheets of toppers of all the three streams were re checked by the experts and all the students had acquired marks because of their hard work and talent. All the exams were written by Ganesh himself. The board has matched his handwriting,” he said.
