Darvesh Singh, the first woman Bar Council President of Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead on the 12th of June, on the premises of a civil court in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

On the 10th of June, Ms. Darvesh was elected as the first woman Bar Council President of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, Manish Sharma, a lawyer at the civil court, around 2:30 P.M., opened fire on Darvesh Singh, killing her on the spot.

The incident took place during the honour ceremony of Darvesh Singh. Manish Sharma, who was at the event, suddenly got up and shot Ms. Singh.

Praveen Verma, the Additional Superintendent of Police of Agra, said she was shot thrice by Manish Sharma, who was her long time acquaintance.

After shooting Ms. Singh, Manish Sharma tried shooting himself.

Mr. Verma said, “Sharma is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is in a critical condition (sic.)”

The reason behind the murder is still not clear.

The Agra Police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Opposition parties took to Twitter and slammed Yogi Adityanath’s Government for the increase in the number of crime reports in the State.
