The Subway outlet at the Central Mall in Hyderabad was shut down after a customer found live cockroaches in their beverage. On Thursday evening, the food safety officials from the GHMC raided the Subway in Punjagutta.

The raid was conducted a day after a businessman Maruganti Vamshikrishna Reddy found four live cockroaches in a beverage he had ordered from Subway. Mr. Reddy filmed the incident after the owner began yelling at him for making a scene. The video went viral on the internet and showed the staff member screaming and asking him to leave the outlet.

Mr. Reddy went on to file a complaint at the Panjagutta Police Station and with the GHMC. Officials raided the outlet and collected samples from the kitchen and sent it to the Food Safety Lab for testing. During the raids officials found cockroaches running around in the storage room.

The Food Safety Inspector Sudharshan Reddy explained the outlet was not shut down by the department. He further stated the outlet owner decided to close the branch for a week to renovate and pest control.
