Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar has submitted his resignation this morning. The country’s second most senior legal officer said his resignation was based on personal reasons.

Mr. Kumar spoke to a news agency and said, “The government is good to me, but I tendered my resignation due to personal reasons.”

In 2014, Kumar was promoted from senior advocate to Solicitor General after Narendra Modi came into power. At the same time, Mukul Rohatgi was appointed as the government’s chief legal advisor. The Attorney General resigned this year also stating his reasons were personal.
