Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Telangana, on the 31st of March, quit the Party.

Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy submitted his resignation letter to Rahul Gandhi, the President of the INC. Speaking about the reasons behind quitting the Party, Sudhakar Reddy said, the Party is losing its values and is choosing candidates with monetary power, instead of those who work hard for the Party.

Mr. Reddy further said, the Party is moving towards destruction as it does not listen to the problems stated by the middlemen and neglects the issues within the Party.

Mr. Reddy was thinking about leaving the Party since a few days, following which, he also held meetings with his followers to take a decision.

The final decision of Mr. Reddy to quit the Party came after the INC disappointed him by denying him a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Khammam district.

The Party selected Renuka Chowdhury as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from Khammam district instead for the upcoming Telangana Lok Sabha elections.

Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 1st of April, in Hyderabad. However, an official announcement regarding the same will be made soon.

Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy is the 11th member of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to quit the Party, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections,

The decision of Mr. Reddy could be a major setback for the INC, which is already lacking in the required number of MLAs to sustain the opposition status in the Telangana Lok Sabha elections.

The INC needs approximately 12 MLAs to remain an opposition party, whereas the Party currently has 10 MLAs to contest the Telangana Lok Sabha elections.

Telangana will contest a total of 17 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Telangana Lok Sabha elections are the INC, the BJP and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)

The results of the Telangana Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
