The BJP’s Parvartana Rally in Mysuru to be held today was postponed to 4 P.M., in the evening. BJP Chief Amit Shah will be speaking at the rally today. The rally was postponed after the protests roared by activists due to the Mahadayi water dispute.

It was initially scheduled for 2:30 P.M., but now will be held at 4 P.M. Even though farmers and activists called for a Statewide bandh in Karnataka the rally will still happen.

The protesters are demanding Prime Minister Modi intervene in the matter and solve the decade old issue. There are two more similar bandhs scheduled for the future. One will coincide with Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Karnataka on the 4th of February.

BJP Leaders are furious and have alleged the bandh was politically motivated. They believe it was deliberately scheduled on the day of Amit Shah’s rally.
BJP’s State President B. S. Yeddyurappa said, “The bandh will not be successful. Amit Shah’s rally later today will be successful. First, let Siddaramaiah and Rahul Gandhi clearly state their stand on the Mahadayi issue. I have spoken to both Chief Ministers and am putting myself forward for resolving the issue.”

A Congress functionary admitted to this coincidence and said, “Yes, the intention of advancing the protest was to ensure that pressure is put on the centre. Since Amit Shah was said to arrive in Mysuru, it seemed apt to organise the bandh on the same day. Besides, the number of people showing up will also reflect on the Congress. This is because the party does not want to portray that we are losing support in Mysuru. Besides several leaders from the Kuruba community are joining the JDS today so Congress has to put on a strong front.”

The two political parties have been throwing shade at each other in Karnataka as the Assembly Elections approach.
