Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday has been rushed to the ICU at the Apollo Hospital. Jayalalitha was admitted to Apollo, on September 22, for a case of dehydration and fever which turned out to be a lung infection. Jayalalitha who was on the mend suffered a cardiac arrest and is in a very critical condition. She had a heart surgery Monday morning and was put on an extra-corporeal membrane heart assist machine to provide support to lungs and heart. The AIADMK party spokesperson, C.R. Saraswathi said, “There was an angio procedure this morning. Doctors say don’t worry, Amma will be fine,” she also added, “we are telling cadres don’t worry. God is with Amma, she will come back. Definitely, she will be ok.”

For Jayalalitha’s treatment doctors have been flown in from AIIMS on short notice. The physician treating her said they are trying to do their best to revive her to full health. Last week a statement was released saying Jayalalitha had completely recovered and would be discharged whenever she wants to. But the situation changed on Sunday evening when she suffered a cardiac arrest. She is currently under constant observation by the doctors.

Many ministers of Tamil Nadu state came to visit her at the hospital and most of them stayed the night in the hospital. Also, Tamil Nadu’s Governer C. Vidya Sagar Rao reached Chennai as soon as he got the news after a conversation with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Mr.Rao then stayed for 10 minutes in the hospital. Though he didn’t issue a statement he gave a brief to the Home Minister about the situation after discussion with the doctors.

People have gathered in front of the hospital and are praying for the well-being of their beloved CM Ms. Jayalalitha. The police asked her supporters not to believe any rumors and any statement about her progress will be issued directly to people. But in order to maintain law and order riot police have been flown in on Sunday night, 9 units each with 100 members.
