Two terrorists, on the 26th of January, were shot dead in an encounter with security forces in the Khonmoh area of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, the militants of Jaish e Muhammad (JeM) entered the area in Srinagar to target the Republic Day celebrations.

Officials of the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint operation after receiving intelligence information about terrorists hiding in the area.

According to a media source, a senior official said, “As the cordon was tightened, the terrorists fired, triggering an encounter.” The security personnel and officials were deployed to maintain order in the State and to ensure the Republic Day events are conducted peacefully.

Two AK 47 rifles and other weapons were recovered from the area. The search operation is still going on.
